Press releaseLund, 1 February 2010 Doro partners with university to develop avatarfacilitating design ofeasy-to-use consumer products Doro is an industrial partner in a European Union funded research projectworking to create an avatar, an advanced Virtual User Model, for thedevelopment of adapted and easy-to-use products for people with special needs.In the project, named VICON, Doro is cooperating with well-reputed scientificinstitutions as University of Bremen, Fraunhofer FIT, RNID and CNIB, amongothers. The EU initiated the project with the aim of preventing the marginalization ofpeople with impaired vision, hearing and mobility. The project will initiallyfocus on two product categories that are important for people in their dailylives, washing machines and mobile phones. The primary target group is thegrowing number of seniors. “It feels great to partner with a prestigious university and combine scientificapproaches with our pragmatic culture. This enables an exchange of ideasbetween experts on disabilities and how to improve future product design,” saysDoro's President and CEO Jérôme Arnaud. “At the same time, as a category leaderand an European SME, we feel we have an important role to play in contributingto the development and dissemination of new tools integrating the needs ofseniors at an early stage in the design of consumer products”.
